Hi Guys,

Hope this in the correct section.
After 8 weeks of cycling my TL450 I finally added my first fish, two Ocellaris clowns. All was good for the first couple of days but now the bigger one has started to bully the smaller one. I know its a dominace thing but I'm hoping to prevent losing the smaller one. A 50% mortality rate isn't a good start!
He spent most of last night cowering in the corner and breathing hard.
Any suggestions?
Unfortunately I don"t have a second tank up and running or sump to put him in.

Thanks

Had the same problem once and caught my wife tapping her cell phone
Against the tank shouting stopit ....

Sometimes the best thing to do is nothing how much bigger is the big one?
are they eating?

Not that much bigger.
The ones eating fine the other one not for the last day or so.

Were they a pair ?
It can also be that they are sexing, the bigger one will be the female and will bully the smaller one into submission.
The male will also shake sideways to show that he is giving in.

Not exactly a pair.... Were swimming near each other at the LFS.
I thought that at first but the smaller one seems to be getting more and more stressed. Fingers crossed that kiss and make up.

The dominant one is changing into the female, it will take a few weeks, hopefully the submissive one will survive and then they will be ok.

Of course you could have two females somehow ... I had that problem ... time will tell. I have found that with clowns (I have had 6) it is always a good idea to get them from a largish school of identically sized individuals (preferably quite small)

Thanks guys, so not really much I can do except wait it out and hope he survives.

Should I leave the lights off to try reduce stress levels?
Any suggestions on food that's irresistible so he atleast eats a bit?

Not much, one will change. Be they two males or two females. You could always take one back to the LFS.

Best pic I have with both in shot. Bottom one is the bully.

Smaller one hiding away, not eating.

This mornings update. Still alive but not doing too much, still not seen it eat. Fins all look good but breathing fast. Hard to see in the pic but between the tail and mid band there is s bit of whitish discoloration. From the stress or maybe the problem?
Other ones swimming around fine and occasionally comes over to bash this one.

Is it worth setting up a isolation tank?

maybe those little guppy breeding boxes. That floats in the tank.

Might be a plan. Saw you can get little starter tanks for not too much...

Does it look like it might have something? Reading the Internet is bad news I keep thinks it's got all sorts of diseases!

i think use those little floating tanks that hang on the tank. to be honest if it is the other fish hurting him you might give him a chance to recover a bit
