heys guys I am new to the forum but not new to fish keeping in general. 2 weeks ago I bought a tank bred percula clown. after doing the initial dripping I left him and the rest of the fish I purchased in my quarantine tank. well its been 2 weeks now and he still hasnt eaten and I have tried it all. almost every trick I know. all my other fish are eating but he just watches food go past him.

please guys any suggestions are welcomed.

thanks in advance
sean

I had a smiths blennie that refused to eat. And eventually he died. I know its not what you want to hear. But no matter what I tried, nothing got him interested in the food.

thanks for the replies guys. I will try lobster eggs, just have to get to my lfs to buy some.
Also when I got the clown his faeces was white and stringy, I have just finished deworming all the fish in quarantine. I did purchase him a buddy a which he has bonded with. His buddy didnt eat for the first day or two but now eats whatever I add to the tank.
I added a picture of the clown in question. One good thing is he is hosting the flower pot

Hi Sean, I'm very new to this hobby but I have the exact same issue. The 2nd clown I bought eats anything and is much more active and the first clown which I bought that only ate lobster eggs is still the much more fussy clown and hardly eats anything. I bought mine from different shops so I wonder if it is normal clown behaviour or a difference in the way they have been bought up? Maybe the experts can help. Hope you come right.

What charlieB is saying is true. My one clown that wasn't eating was bought at lfs that doesnt quarantine their fish and water etc isnt very good and the other one comes from an excellent lfs so those two eat like pigs. Luckily other one saw this and started eating as well.

Fish have strange behaviours..my clowns didnt want to eat at first as well..i tried flakes...pellets...bloodworms...lobster eggs...nothing..and then i tried some cyclopeeze which i had soaked in some garlic..this got them eating instantaneously..so far they are eating well..different food types..will entice them to eat just keep on trying..they now eat all the above which i tried before..it's just a matter of getting them to start eating.

Well I should be getting lobster eggs today and going to do a metronidazole treatment aswell just to make 100% sure its not an internal problem, cause as I stated he had white stringy faeces.

Funny enough the one with the problem comes from an excellent lfs and the other one just landed when I got him and he eats like a pig now.

I just really hope I get him to eat he has an awesome personality.

Also what sorta dosage would you guys recommend for the metronidazole treatment.

Keep in mind I will have to treat the water and not the food as he doesnt eat at all.

Thanks
Sean

Hey guys I have the lobster eggs and the metronidazole.
Can someone please advise me on the dosage of the metronidazole so that I can treat the water when I get home.

Thanks

All the fish in quarantine are:

2 percula clowns
1 blue regal tang
1 desjardin sailfin tang
1 clown tang

My display tank has no fish in it at the moment.

Ok, No bully fish in there. Is your clown tang the biggest fish? They can be aggressive. Just keep an eye on him during feeding and when not feeding. Try some entice, and fish/lobster eggs.

The clown tang is my smallest tang.
The regal is the big one.
So far i have tried brine shrimp, mysis, krill, flake food, pellets and bloodworm. All food soaked in garlic guard and entice with no luck.

I went surfing and all basically say that you mix it with food.....sorry don't seem to be of much help to you...I did however read that you have to remove you'r Carbon..(fresh carbon):p
http://www.everythingfishy.com/items/1319.html

I was also reading and came to a result of 100mg per 40 litres of water.
Which is the same dosage as praziquantel.
Well hopefully all this works

Have you tried live brine shrimp..? if he doesn't want "pre-pared food" maybe he/she would go for live...?

Seems like you reading my mind here belindamotion.
I was actually thinking the exact same thing.
But for now I will try the lobster eggs and hope for the best.
Will report back once I have tried this later tonight.
