[IMG]We here at Reef Builders love our LED lights but let’s face it, the color rendition of white and blue LED reef lights leaves a lot to be desired in the warmer side of the color spectrum. In an effort to correct this shortcoming, Cree has been working on a true replacement for an incandescent light that uses phosphors emitting a more beautiful color spectrum.

The True White Light from Cree is a 10 watt LED which meets ENERGY STAR® performance requirements for 60-watt standard replacement bulbs and it closely resembles the size and shape of the heat globes we all know, and sometimes also love. The announcement of Cree’s TrueWhite technology was made today, on the 131 year anniversary of the issuing of Thomas Edison patent for the incandescent light bulb.

Chuck Swoboda, Cree chairman and chief executive officer was quoted as saying “LED lighting is supposed to look as good as the technology it is replacing. This is the first no-compromise replacement for a 60-watt incandescent bulb.” We don’t foresee this particular lamp taking the reef world by storm but we do want to see the TrueWhite phosphors trickling into more LED components.
