Used to be that a nice Blastomussa coral was the tippy top of the shelf for LPS corals that you could get for your “Mini Reef” aquarium. A nice Blasto represented the centerpiece coral in many people’s coral collection, almost always a*Blastomussa wellsi since the fluted Blastomussa merleti was extremely rarely imported from the wild. Blastos are still very nice but they seem all but eclipsed by the super gaudy colors of Acans, lords, scolies and the like.

However if you’re like Than from Tidal Gardens*Blastomussa are very nice, interesting and beautiful corals with a slight degree of ‘personality’. Not sure if anyone still (or ever) really calls*Blastomussa a ‘Pineapple Coral’ but this sweet video gives these backseat LPS corals a much needed spotlight highlighting their simple basic care requirements and like Than says, you almost can’t give them too little light.
