Please can you advise me, aragonite or playsand? aragonite And is it imperative to have a DSB? No What about running with bio balls keep them far away from your tank lol and filter wool? You have to change the wool every 2nd day
Just to add onto what Treyman said. Argonite is the best to have as it contains bacteria and organisms that help to benefit the tank. But like you may have realised it doesn't come cheap. Playsand is what most of us use as it's a lot cheaper, it still has that very fine structure and after about 8 washes it will have a white colour. What some do is to make a combination of the two using like 70% playsand and 30% argonite so that the playsand can be seeded with some life.
A DSB isn't needed but it does help with the nutrient exports and helps with stability in the tank.
Bio balls collect detritus that increases the build up of both nitrates and phosphates. This will cause an algae bloom in the tank. Also Bio balls have no significant change in the tank and is thus unneeded.
