Pure Refugium

Rod if the intention is to create a multi gradient system and have a source of food for the remainder of the tank then algae and also light would not be required.

This is referred to as a cryptic zone and when left in darkness will produce zooplankton and also grow tunicates sponges etc..............

Thanks BB what I have done is place 30 mm sugar grain crushed coral and 40 mm fairly course crushed coral. The refugium is lit at the moment. Should I switch lights off?
