Please be careful!

some people recommend removing the Earth Leakage.any one here can elaborate on this please?
Only a registered installer (certified electrician with a COC) may or may not remove electrical equipment. If you (the owner) get caught tampering with any electrical equipment you can be fine up to R50 000 or up to 1 year sentenced to jail.
If somebody gets electrocuted within your home you can be accused of manslaughter if any electrical fault is found on inspection. Rather spend the extra buck on a registered installer.
Is it the house Earth leakage they are talking about? If it is removed and someone gets electrocuted the person that removed it will be held liable. If you use a separate earth Leakage, ensure it and the supply both have good earths and that it is enclosed There should be portable Earth leakage units available that have a 15A plug and cable on the input and two sockets built into the face panel.

If you bought yourself a generator you need to get a registered installer to install the generator for you. Your Main DB Board needs to have a mechanical plus electrical interlock in place with a auto switch over panel. YOU MAY NOT RUN YOUR GENERATOR THROUGH A SOCKET OUTLET ON TO YOUR MAINS. REASON: Household socket outlet can only draw up to 16Amps (check your plugtop for rating) If you start to use more then 16amps the plug will start to melt and you could start a electrical fire, your socket outlet circuit breaker will only trip at the rating of 20Amps.

Bear in mind you may use your generator with no connection between your main supply and your generator. Ex. connecting electrical equipment directly to the socket outlet of the generator, within the rating of the cable length.

Best option is to get yourself a copy of the SANS 10142
