The Phantom Tomato Clownfish is an unusual specimen of Amphiprion frenatus which was recently collected in teh Philippines by RVS Fishworld. Much like the “Gladiator” ocellaris clownfish, the unusual tomato clownfish features an unusual pattern where its single head bar is morphed into some kind of headgear marking in the anterior portion of the body. The other side of the phantom tomato clownfish is completely normal and although there is a strong possibility that this juvenile fish may grow out of the pattern, this kind of mutation could also spread with age and either way, this guy would make fine broodstock for designed clownfish breeding project to develop a new strain of the classic tomato clownfish. More pictures after the break.*
