As which ocean Indian, Pacific , Indo , Carabian, Red sea You cant tell me that any salt mix brand can match all of these conditions?

Then why do the LFS always sell buffers to add trace and other nutients to mix I dont understant even with the expensive mixes like Grotech which I used didn't have everything in the mix

u dont have to add trace etc, i dont add any additives other than calcium and iodine..

Reason for asking is that im seriously thinking of switching to salt mix,i want my corals colouration to be outstanding and with NSW/2 oceans water i will never get that

Hey Amalick, Who's your son? And where is he studying marine bio? I'm doing my masters in conservation biology at uct! I know andrea's in charge of the tropical tank - I hadnt heard about a new assistant? Sure I'll meet him soon. I have becried the woes of the 20A reef tank many times, and I agree that it can get sorted out with a bit of attention. The volume of the water in the tank makes filtration a challenge, but no more than that...

I have heard of many people using and storing large amounts of NSW for later use to no i'll effects. I have stored NSW for about two weeks and had no problems.

My sons name is Imtiyaaz, he is studying oceanography through CPUT with Marine Bio as one of his majors. He is in 2nd year. Volunteering at 2Oceans to get his practical hours up. Kevin Oliver from 2Oceans is kind of helping my son along which is where the idea of the resurrection of the reef tank came from.

Nah, your probably right about Kevin, my son has been very lazy with his practicals at 2Oceans and hasn't been there since December so Kevin could have left. Anyway, I may just ask you for a favour one day in terms of inspiring my son to take things to your level, since you seem so passionately convinced about your career choice

Yeah i missed that one as well ...
i didn't know that the composition of sea water around the world is basically constant within very close tolerances (apart from elevated salinity in some places) ...

yellow tangs from hawaii have very different water params to our NSW,

Other than temp, everything else is the same, and don't quote the Dead Sea now.

so ther is no conclusion to which is better,just preference and cost.
but imo saltmix is much better for keeping a full on reef,to get the full potential colour out of the corals
