Hi there

My new tank filled with tap water is now running for 3 weeks . It shows brownish algae day by day on the live rock, glass and gravel.I have done a water test at the local fish store and water shows low PH and nitrate .What causes this algae and is this normal for a new tank?

If its brown is likely diatoms. If it is diatoms then it is normal to have it in the initial stages of the tank.

to MASA...out of intrest...will you be using Tap water permanently..? or just to start of with "cycling the Tank"..? If using tap water instead of RO water...do you know the TDS reading of you'r tap water..?

to MASA...out of intrest...will you be using Tap water permanently..? or just to start of with "cycling the Tank"..? If using tap water instead of RO water...do you know the TDS reading of you'r tap water..?

I only started the tank with normal tap water, and do the top up with RO daily.
Unfortunately i dont know tds how can i find out?
