Can led downlights be used in a mixed reef tank?

I use them to grow algae in my sump. Not enough blue for corals though, when I have put corals in the sump, they have not done well.

no, there lumen output is not near strong enough to penetrate the water at all

here is an experiment I have in my garage. This xenia is in a tank with three led downlighters ar a depth of 40cm. As you see,it does not look great. At R100 a pop, you would be able to get at least twice as much high quality led lighting.
