Mmmmmmmmm....Now I have read all of this and boy, have some of you got it wrong!!! All clowns are born female, only one turns to be male. Yes!! One can mix clowns and there is a way. Clowns are predatorily. So when one buys a different type of clown, you have to put all your clowns in a different tank, and yes, the size of the tank does not matter. Let me tell you why, I have a 2000mm (L) x 900mm (W) by 850mm(H) tank and they battle so hard the one nearly died. I then removed the clown and put him in my sump. After two weeks when this clown had become strong again I removed my other clowns and put them in the sump. Not once did they fight. After 3 weeks I removed them and put them all back into the tank and not once have they fought or tried to dominate the territory or kill each other. So if anyone wants to or seems to think different, you are welcome to pop over to my house and I will show you a documentary on clowns taken from the ocean.
Sorry Brain but u got it wrong. Amphprions begin their Adult lives as males and the under certain conditions some change to females, with the lager one being the female and the one next in size her mate, all the others will stay smaller. this is also the case with my 2 occelaris I'm my 3.2m tank. if i should remove this female, the male will become the next female.
I agree with scubaninja that u cant take your own experience and make it a fact. i've been doing marines now almost 20 Years and still there is so many things to learn. The fact that u got them to coexist doens mean others will have the same results, they are aminmals, not pre-programmed robots. please try to remember that the guideline other reefers give is because we have to do with live stock and we dont like to gamble with their lives. if you know that 2 species have an 80% chance the they will not coexcist peacefully, dont take the chance. in larger systems one have more room for error but in smaller systems t is jsut not worth their lives.
please do some reading, on this subject i will recomment "anemonefishes og the world" by Dr. Gerald R Allen.
kind regards Ed
