ATM Hot Salt Reef has been out for over a year and is leveraging an intriguing hook to lure in new customers — a dryer salt with less moisture and impurities. There is a bevy of salt choices on the market, all hyping the same thing of more of what you want (clean, mixes quick, right parameters, trace minerals, etc.) and less of what you don’t (impurities, long mix time, etc.), but we wonder if ATM is on to something here or if its just another good salt on the market.

The biggest selling point on Hot Salt is there is less moisture that translates into a cleaner product that uses less “weight” of salt in comparison to other salts on the market. According to the website, “The Hot Salt is made of high quality “anhydrous” raw materials that have been constructed without the presence of moisture at all, thus providing a completely moisture-free salt.”

The term “Hot” comes from the exothermic reaction that takes place when the product hits the water. The salt mixes completely in about six minutes and is ready to use in an hour, according to the product literature. Omega Sea makes a mighty fine salt that is also anhydrous in nature and mixes up more seawater by weight than run of the mill salt mixes but it is not so ‘dry’ that it generates a hot mixture like ATM Hot Salt.

We haven’t seen this salt in action or have a lab analysis of the resulting mixture, but if it does what it says, then it might be worth exploring. One of the main reasons we search for more premium and clean salt is the ability to get a clean mix without the extra impurities coating your mixing tubs, pumps and heaters.


We have seen great success with the industry standard salts, but also with more premium blends out there as well. The word on the forums is pretty positive with the price being the only downside. However, compared to other premium salts on the market, it pretty much is in line with the higher end mixes.
