Hi Guys,

This is my first tank. Been a while in the planning but it's finally coming together. Still a way to go but would appreciate any advice or input.

My tank dimensions 3.2m x 800 x 1000 deep. Sump 1.4 x 650 x 500

A huge thank you goes to George Halekas from Tunze (who is building my tank) for all the help and support.

A few pics to start with...

Looking good will follow this one. I have a 1meter deep and you will see its challenging and fun.
Going to be awesome enjoy the build
cheers

that stand can carry a truck. Loaded.

Just a question. Would the sump fit in under the trusses? Their lowest point on the legs looks a bit lower than 500mm from the floor?

And the sump is less than half the tank length. What will you do in the other half of the sump area?

Guys thanks for response....
pls excuse me if i reply late, not at the computer till evening.

yes i know i over did it with the stand...had ibeams laying around...soo...
definitely can hold more than 10tons.

The sump is fortunately got a room...behind the tank....at first i want to have the tank in the wall, but to costly to reinforce the wall for the upstairs deck...but still a looker in the room plus three sides

I would have made the fishroom bigger... :whistling:.
It can never be big enough.

Anyway, its great to have a separate room to do all the jobs that normally results in a wet floor. Or some drops on the floor to upset your better half.

Riaan ...we all know how the better halfs can beee:biggrin: but luckly mine is going be down with me cleaning algee and water changes...:m85:
Plenty space for now...can extend if i want later

this tank is reminding of my old 800 deep tank, what a mission to get to anything, at that stage i never realised how much your arms need to get wet in the marine game, and i dont have very long arms. even now with my 600 deep tank still a mission getting anywhere. invest in some good tongs sir or else pay people to go diving in there lol

Welcome to MASA bud , lovely size tank there. Wishing you the best with the build , just remember at MASA you will get all the assistance you need.

Thanks for he well wishes...
Electrical almost finished...
whats your opinion on lighting for my size tank (3.2x1.x.800),iam going for metal halogens...old school..

That would be your best option .maybe 4 x 250 watt mhs with 20k bulbs.but somehow u going to want to 8 corporate some t5s into the equation for extra colouration etc.. halides may be a cheaper purchase but definately a costly running expense.. Other route is LED but man for your size tank it may end up extremely costly.. let's hear other opinions

For that tank you going to need about 6 x 250w halides or 4 x 400w halides. Ouch that monthly electrical bill.

My tank is 3.2 by .6 by .7 high.
I use 6 Radions. On your tank being wider (800) I would mount them sideways, and use maybe 2 more units.

But they will not be cheap. On your monthly bill, under full power it will not really make a difference. The new Radion Pro is 185W is not mistaken. 8 units at fill power will be 1480 W.
6 x 250w halides at 1500 W
4 x 400w halides at 1600 W

But you will save over the day as the LEDS slowly ramp up to full power and down again.

Possibly 3x vertex illumina sr360 300mm. Each unit is good for 1m x 1m coverage. They are 95w odd each at full power. Very energy efficient and an additional multi pad can be added to each unit if needed
