For they guys that where around 2 years ago, they would remember this tank.

Display is 750L, 1.5m by 750 by 750mm. Starfire glass front panel.
Sump is another extra 250L.

nice!
look forward to see how you go about this

So how long do we have to wait for it to get wet & stocked?
Would love to see when the Scopas and Blond gets thrown in together, each being ruler of their own tank for so long!!

Cool, I'm looking forward to seeing how you set this one up.

3cm layer of sea sand. Brought back 40L fine sand collected at Rocky bay. Obviously below the low tide and it was full moon. Collected on Saturday. Very fine sand. Left the 40L container in the boot of my car and got my sons to help with the bucket back and forth (14 and 11 years). Cost me a couple of ice-creams.

Hopefully heavier than aragonite and the end to sand storms. 40L water added, actually a water change from existing system.

(and yeah, crap cell phone picture)

Also check the closed cell foam. Got a sheet from a company in south Joburg. Looks a lot better than white polystyrene. It is 19mm thick.

The end result of last nights labour.

Tank is levelled. It got an adjustable bolt in each corner. I closed off the closed loop system. Had a 50mm intake in the middle and two 32mm returns at the back bottom on both sides (mostly now hidden under the sand level). The reason is that the pumps for closed loop is to heavy on power for the flow you get out of them. Also less plumbing.

I did prepare about 220L saltwater last night. The setup before water replacement is 1000L.

My "complicated" current system will be broken down partly.

Both displays will be emptied. that is 350 plus 220L. As well as the main sump will be transferred to new system. DSB included. Will keep the remote DSB and cryptic tank.

The quarantine system (you can see the reflection in the glass) will stay as is, would just move out of the living room into the garage (once the garage is sorted).

Ok, so it now almost qualifies as wet... Now for the transfer. Good luck with that one!

Hey Good Luck with this Riaan!!
You just keeping the local Rocky bay sand in your DT, thought it was for the DSB?

For the DSB I needed 80L sand.
And after 40L in the boot, with all the other holiday stuff, bicycles on the back the Mazda6 was already sitting low at the back. After some recalculations, I worked out that the display needs about 36L. So the DSB will stay playsand. I got some coarse aragonite I can add as a topping.

Next time I will go down to the coast with my trailer.

Yeah checking your boot, trailer will be good next round!
The Aragonite coarse, hhhmmm that might work as the finer local sand will fall through... hopefully!:whistling:

OK, been very busy with setting up things as I want it.
My garage is on the one side of the lounge. I sacrifice a 2m wide section to build a dedicated fish room.

From the other side

All Varnished.
Got a gap at the top for ventilation. And the walls are on little legs, because sooner or later I will cause a flood.

The room is 2m wide by 4.8 long. Leaving me with a still very spacious "single" garage of 4m wide.

Very nice Riaan.
Is that a second tank or a quarintine tank?

Thanks guys,

Is that a second tank or a quarintine tank?
Second tank. (Actually 4th...) It is a temporary tank, it is a 1.2, @paul bloem old system.

More info on fishroom. I used shutterply on the rafters. 8 in total, 4 a side so in the middle garage there is an opening to be able to access the new storage space above.
The roof is isolated with those silver rolls, can see it partly sticking out above the RO unit. Garage is now nice and cool, without dust problems.

I used another 5 shutterply boards to build the walls. Used a nail gun at the top to secure the boards, Halidam slot rail at the bottom. Little square plates under the feet and short 20mm square tubing as feet. Due to floor not being level the feet are not all the same length. So I ended up with 50 to 70mm space below the walls, for future floods. And the main rafters width space at the top for ventilation.

Ceiling and walls varnished.

Next big step is to do the lights. I got 2 units of 2*28W T5 energy safer open channel for the fish room side. Still looking for at least 2 more for the garage side. Biggest problem is the lights electrical layout. The light switch is at the wrong side of the garage. Want to move it to the back entry door. Need to invite @Yuri for a braai. :)

Still lots to do.
