I use to have nice big and healthy mushrooms. Now al off a sudden they started shrinking and die.Al the other Polups and stuff are growing. The only thing I did were adding active carbon to my filter and my nitrates dropped allot.I also added more LR and Zoas.Attached is two photos.Any help will be appreciated.

Thanks

It looks like they are just shrunken a bit from the pics...are they disintigrating or are they just shrunken and small? If just small then they are more than likely just sulking...could be the carbon...a number of factors attributing to it, but none that I would be too concerned about if it is infact this.

How long after adding the carbon did this occur and how long have they been like this since?

What are your water parameters? How much light do they get during the day? Darker colours usually indicate deeper water species and they do not like being blasted by light nor do they like too much flow. How long have you had them?

I have had them for more than two years and I havent moved them around. The have shrunken and found one this morning that disintegrated completely. My nitrates are between 5 and 10 mg/l and it used to be about 40 mg/l.

I had a similar mass mushroom suicide...

Over 125 mushrooms, well established, just shrunk and died off. Anemone, suncoral, zoas, fish... all fine.

Just like the lemmings...hmmm.

I took out my carbon and there we go after about a week they were back in action......

Its not the carbon as such that causes it, but more the sudden reduction in dissolved organics which is removed by the carbon. If this is done gradually over time then the mushrooms will be fine. Its the shock that takes them out.
