CREE Bridgelux Epistar

Cree is the best from what i have read, cant comment on the other 2, generally in life u get what u pay for
 
Forgot to add what optic lense is the best in terms of spread and penetration, I know the cree you get a limited number of optics for them I think it was 60 and 80 .
 
As far as quality goes I don't think anyone would argue that cree are the best, but when you take price into consideration, bridgelux is quite good value for money.
When looking at optics it depends on the depth of your tank.
 
Guys, what are your thoughts in adding a spectrum of light for example if I plan to build a LED unit, It will have 26x3w Cree XPG R5 White leds, and then a few Red leds maybe 8 of them also 3 w cree, and a mix between royal blue 20 of them 3w Cree , all with 80 degree optics,,
What I need to know also is it necessary to add red leds in there does it have any effect to growth on corals.
 
Some people would argue that it does, affect growth, but the thing is it only does so at a very shallow depth as red light is not very good at penetrating the water. That why I think the most efficient way to do it is to get a nice mix of white and blue. You can maybe add a few reds for the visual effect. I think this will be a really nice powerful led unit.
How big is your tank?
 
Thats gonna be a really nice setup where are you getting your leds and heatsink?
 
I am going to get it as a unit, from china.

My brother has a similar unit from them
he currently has a 120 w led unit with a mix of cree XPG R5 cool white and XPG D4 royal blue 40 leds in total with an 80 Degree optics,
but it was not enough as his tank is 2mx 600x 600 deep so he added 2 t5's one 10000k bulb and one 20000k bulb, but we never see alot of growth in the tank.
That is why I was thinking of adding red leds as it may increase growth, but not sure if I am correct in saying that the red leds will have an impact on growth

If I understand correctly it is good for growth at shallow depths and not neccessarily coral growth, because a lot of coral are at a depth where the red light doesn't really penetrate, it seems to me more plant growth which is the reason I stayed away from it except for in my sump over the cheato. theres a new cree led thats not out yet, its gonna be pretty cheap. Also bridgelux is teaming up with toshiba so they will make better and cheaper led's

Adding something extra is always a good thing.;)
Its just a bit of a waste to only add 8.
Why only 8?
I'm going to be adding 8 cree leds to my current led fixture soon, but that already has 18 bridgelux leds so its just to boost it.
 
remember the more red the more chance of algae growth :)

i am using bridelux and getting about 1cm a week growth on my monti's, and since using LED they have gone from orange brown to emerald green.

but be carefull as the intesity of the light is more. on 600 i would use 80deg or even 120deg and space about 6-7cm apart
