Hi all,

Can someone please ID this fish please? Is this a type of wrasse and is it reef safe?

Surge wrasse, Thalassoma purpureum. Won't eat corals but gets big and nasty and will eat shrimp, small fish, tubeworms and small echinoderms.

thanks a mil. by the way, how come you now so much about all the species? are you a scientist :tt2:

this fisheeeeee is obviously the reason for 3 of my hermits disappearing. little bugger

:lol: clever chap... he adds the fish , then asks for an ID:whistling: to me all wrasses have the same traits, they just tend to cause some sort of havoc in a tank

Good or bad reputations, but wrasses are awesome fish.
Maybe @Goby is still out collecting?:whistling:

Meh, I like wrasses. Got 6 species at the moment and they're all cool. Active and lots of character, even when they're being naughty.

Not a scientist, just a fish geek/catcher for 16 years. Was my second career choice though... :whistling:
