Vid of something new

Hi ppl

Well i got most of my parts for my new upgrade.
Lets see if you know what im building.

I got some Pratley`s Ezee Bond today and did a test.
I took two peaces of U channel aluminum and stuck them together with Ezee Bond.

On the vid you will see that i heat the aluminum with a lighter.
Reason for this is to see if the heat gets transferred between the two peaces of aluminum.
A also test to see if the Ezee Bond can handle the heat and that it dont start melting.
On the booklet the Ezee Bond says it can take heat up to 80deg.

So now i see it works and now i can continue with my new project.

So lets have a look at the vid and pics.

Enjoy

Oh, i forgot to say that yellow stuff is butter.
Just wanted to see if it gets hot. hehe

haha. I think you do:lol:

haha I just read u channel and I already know :p ... Have you considered thermal glue to stick the u channel? That should do a better job than putty and you can also just rivet the two pieces together for added strength

haha. cool man.
Jip i did, but that thermal glue is about R205 for only 20ml. Not paying that cos whats the point in doing something DIY if its still expensive.
Im using Ezee Bond and normal CPU heat sink paste in between the Ezee Bond.

I wanted to use pop rib-bits to hold it but decided against it.
This Ezee Bond can take up to 80dec heat. But trust me it will never get close there.
Planing something else for cooling.

Ill post some pics now now, but first tell every body what im building and let us see if your right:lol:

A heat sink for your DIY leds?

A heat sink for your DIY leds?

YES YES NBS, its LED time baby.
And true true, my own DIY LED heat sink.
I wandered what gave it away.

But can someone tell me how im doing it?
What am i using except just u channel?
How am i using the u channel aluminum?
And more or less how long will it take. hehe

DIY LED Heat Sink by CW

Ok you all know what im doing so lets get into the details.

I got myself a aluminum sheet (800mm x 300mm x 2.5mm)
Also got some aluminum U channel (6500mm x 20mm x 2mm)

Then cut the 6,5m U channel in 8 pieces of (800mm x 20mm x 2mm)
41594f7cb32e58a1f.jpg

Sanded the 800mm x 300mm x 2.5mm sheet to get it nice and smooth.
Then gave it to my neighbor and he took it to his work and bent the sides up 90deg.
50mm on each side

So now to get the positions of the U channel marked out onto the sheet.

Done.
Now to clean it nicely with some spirits then get everything needed to start glueing the U channel to the 800mm x 300mm x 2.5mm sheet.

This is normal CPU heat sink paste.
Ill use this to put in between the Ezee Bond for transferring the heat into the U channel (the heat sink fins)

And there we have it, the first u channel ready.
The Ezee Bond has two tubes, tube A and tube B.
Tube A get`s put on one of the two materials and tube B on the other.
Heat sink paste in between and then stick it down, move it side to side a little so everything spreads nicely then make sure its in position then you leave it alone.

The Ezee Bond leaflet says for at-least 2min it must not be moved. But im leaving it till tomorrow morning. It also says after 1hour and 30min then its fully cured.

One little problem.
I ran out of heat sink paste.
That sucks man. Luckily i got 6 pieces of U channel stuck with what i had.

Ill get some tomorrow and then stick the last two on.

So what do you think PPL?

lekka lekka soes n krekka :tt2: let the DIY LED build off begin, oh it has already began :yeahdude:
