great to hear you are starting off realy cool.

best advice about plumbing is to measure twice cut once, plan it all first and draw it out so that you know whats going where and then start. Also make sure your joints are clean and free of plastic when you bond. once its set its hard to redo so get it right first time.

oh and cut your pipes at right angles

nice looking tank

a note on the plumbing: are you using PVC? if so remember to sand bothe the inner of te fitting and the exterior of the pipe.. apply glue to both ends and turn the pipe as you insert it into the fitting ensuring the excess tangit (pvc weld) forms a neat seal at the fitting...

its easier than you think but the sanding is the hard part..

enjoy...

Very nice tanks those ...I had exactly the same. Does yours have a steel stand inside the cabinet ? If not I would suggest adding one before filling

You can then also remove the wooden brace in the middle inside the cabinet...this will allow for a larger sump

the problem is your sump will evaporate water inside the cabinet making the wood swell thus putting stress on the tank.

Rather do it now than worry about creaking noises in the night. You will also appreciate the extra space for the sump

If you bought it where I think you did...you probably didnt get the best advice around

No need to stress though a simple stand from 25 mm sq tube will do the trick...

The sump is a biggesh class cube with opening doors, i have tried to get a photo of it but ya, its does not look to great, the middle section does not look like it can come out because the doors are screwed into it?

Normally RiaanP would go through the whole story but seeing I had the same tank..

Sump with three chambers.
1 - Skimmer & inlet
2 - DSB , taking it for granted you will be adding one. In order to be effective it needs to be as large as possible
3 - return pump & chemical filtraion such as Rowaphos , Carbon Etc

IMHO two options here:

Firstly remove those "sliders" looks cool but becomes a nuisance.

Add a metal stand

Remove the internal wooden devider as wide as possible and add as large a sump as possible (if you want to utelise DSB)

OR Invest in the new craze wrt NP reactors to increase and feed bacteria. You would might then also like to look at other reactors such as carbon , phos etc. You can then drill relatively small holes to accomodate all pipes.

Ultimately depends on what you wanna keep ....that system could work fine for FOWLR
