A couple of years ago I had a heater that got stuck in the closed position. Consequently I had a few tropical fortunately not marine fish that was ready for the table. I have put this unit together and it has worked well for me for the last 4 years.

Please note that I am not an electrician so please have unit checked before installing on your tank. Also I am sure that the electrical electronic experts can advise on improvements.

Yip, I wouldn't trust the thermostat in a heater, they are always failing!

The downfall to this setup is the controller itself, these units are generally not cheap, about R1000+

You could build a unit digital unit at a fraction of the cost, but would require some intermediate electronics knowledge.
