Morning all. I use crush coral on the moment for gravel in tank. I was told that coral can later became a nitrate factory. So my question is, can i use sea sand for gravel after i washed it out before putting it into tank?

Is it Sugar Fine Crushed Coral? If so i dont see the problem.

Personally i wouldnt go for sea sand as you have to collect below the water line and also our water is not that clean either. I would rather use aragonite if you had money otherwise playsand from reggies.

Coral is about 3mm each. I think i will go for reggies play sand. Thanks

Reggies would be your best option just remember you have to wash it like 10 times until it's white then you can put it in the tank.

could i use silicon type filter sand too or not? I got about 20Kg of sand already.

People seem to think that silicates leach stuff. And cause havoc. But i dont see this happening as glass has silicates in it.

Callie at like R40 a 20kg bag for reggies sand i would rather be safe and use that. And it looks nice and white also.

I stay near to the beach, i coll ect my water from the beach and in the next month or two i will be putting up two tanks, wich im going to go fetch sand at the beach for, im gonna use sea sand for dsb and my dt, i just feel the sea sand is really fine and therefore all the better
