I have used Seachem Para Guard for many an ailment and it works very well. They do say you can dose it in your aquarium but I always prefer to isolate the fish I am treating from the tank.

Ok thanks brent this is what i found out so far

A virus which has been seen sporadically in the past seems to be popping up more and more on saltwater aquarium fish, lately. The virus been identified as the Lymphocystis Virus and presents as a white or beige colored cauliflower like growth or growths on the skin or fins.

Lymphocystis is a common infectious virus hosted by freshwater and saltwater fishes which causes cells to enlarge many times their normal size. It is usually found on the fish skin and fins. After residing on its host for 4 weeks or more, the Lymphocystis cells rupture or fall off the host, spreading the infected cells in the water. The cells then either lie dormant or reattach to another host via a break in the skin or fins, or in the gills.
The good news is:
  • We can identify this disease fairly readily.
  • Death from the virus itself is rare.
The bad news is Lymphocystis, at the present time:
  • Has no cure.
  • Appears to be contagious, spreading to other fish of the same or closely related species.
  • The virus enters the fish's body through openings (injuries) in the fins, skin and gills.
  • Spreads fairly rapidly on the affected fish.
  • Death is usually caused by secondary bacterial or fungal infection.
According to the scientists at National Fish Pharmaceuticals:
  • These growths may be surgically removed, but this is certainly no cure.
  • This virus will become systemic and show up in larger numbers when it comes back again.
  • This virus can spread like cancer throughout the fish.
They further say that: "Some people state that Acriflavine will cure this virus. This is false info."
Unfortunately, with no known effective cure/treatment, the outlook for a cure for this virus isn't very rosy at this time. It appears that prevention and quick identification are the best courses of action.
Prevention:
  1. Closely examine new arrivals for signs of infection.
  2. Quarantine all new arrivals.
  3. Don't obtain specimens from known infected sources.
Treatment:
  1. Isolate all infected fish in a Quarantine Tank.
  2. Feed a healthy diet, including supplements.
  3. Treat for secondary infections.
In the end, dealing with Lymphocystis is much the same as with any other contagious disease in a marine aquarium. With proper precautions, care and treatment, the affected fish should survive and the other critters in your tank will not be adversely affected.

In this case I would isolate the fish as soon as possible and try treat it with the Para Guard and when the growth does drop off perhaps reintroduce him into your tank.

Ya we thinking on the same track! Should i put both clowns into a QT?
Para Guard? Local pet stores??

I would only put the infected one into QT as the growth has not yet dropped off so it should not have infected others yet. Any good LFS should keep Seachem but if you struggle I can always send you a bottle up.

It is lymphocystis which can be contagious but not detrimental to the fish in a lot of cases. The owners seem to have more of a problem from and aesthetic point of view. If the fish can be caught one can either try asn cut the bulk off and treat the rest with an earbud dipped in either mercurochrome or hydrogen peroxide

Grant if its Lymphocystis, which it kinda looks like from your pic your clown should be fine. As Tony said I think we have more of a problem with it than the fish does.

My male clown also had it...if you look for a thread of mine from a while back you will see it...anyway the growth just got bigger and bigger and eventually fell off. As far as I rememeber I didnt do anything to help with the curing process and my clown is still fine and happy to this day :)

Ok thanks alot guys so plan of action for the mean time would be to go about my usaul business and moniter the clowns progress?
Mark I would really like it if you could pop in and have a look see for yourself as you have dealt with this problem already????
