ECMA Introduction
Howsit to all the guys in the Eastern Cape a couple of guys and I have decided to reborn the ECMA, committee members are as follows: Grant Buckley Chairman
Daniel Benkenstein Vice Chairman
Mike LotZ Secretary
Mark Kunhardt Treasurer
Mike Grigoratos
Dave van der Poel
Dale Moolman
The aim and point of this association is to help fellow reefers understand the hobby better and our committee members are taking this very seriously and we intend to make a difference!!!!! For one when I first started I made some stupid mistakes but after been taken under Mike’s (Phat) wing and then under Dave’s I am moving in the right direction!!!!
We have had two committee meetings held in Beacon Bay and the following was discussed....firstly we made sure everyone knows what their responsibilities are in the committee and then moved on to ideas for our first proper meeting. We are very fortunate to be allowed to use the aquariums’ conference room, we are hoping to start off with a guest speaker Mr. Nail Vine who will talk to us on the basics of reef keeping (this may sound boring and some might say “we know this” but I say let’s get together and give our ideas and opinions and share with everyone else what we have learnt and know). This will be followed by cleaning and re doing our aquariums tanks this is a possibility at the moment but defiantly something we want to help out with! We are wanting on Dave to finalise a date but this meeting will happen in the month of October!!!!
Before all this happens we are wanting to organise a little get together at Pampered Pets or Finny Flipper where hopefully Mike and Shaun will sell some products at some discounted prices (oh yes!!!! And we have a little braai or something.
There has been many tank tours and at the moment we are seeing the same beautiful tanks so what we have decided to do is to have an upside down tank tour get some experienced reefers that really know what they talking about and get them visit other reefers tanks and help them out, give advice and ideas, by doing this we are hopefully going to get new guys on the tank tours so that we not seeing the same tanks over and over again(though that is not a good thing because no one can get enough the beauty’s we have in the EC)
We are also wanting to get the newbie’s more educated in the hobby and by doing this, one like myself can ask for my tank to be looked at and then the Guru’s of the hobby will be invited to the house of the newbie and will help the guy/gal out and give their opinions and advice. By doing this we are helping out of fellow reefers.
What a lot of people don’t realise is that some people are not on the forums and do not have access to the wonderfully information, help and advice we are so luckily to have!
We intend to help these people and make their hobby even more enjoyable!!!!
