Hey Guys here is my tank
Display tank 900x500x500
Sump 900x500x300 (lxbxh)
300 odd litres
I have 4 T5 lights 2x Atlanics 20000kelvin, 2x White 18000kelvin
I still need alot more LR waiting for Local pet store to get some in
Here some pics not much tp see but ya and any comments will be awesome

Looks like a TS1 - Nice;)

bit difficult to tell from the pics, but hope you don't have the local "shale" in the tank, as it will cause problems down the road....

Hey bud i got sand from Black rock its where the experts around the Slums sed we must get our sand from so should be ok its not coarse pretty fine hey...
 
Hey guys im not too clued up with the DSB part of things as you can c in the pic above the sand is going alil black is this right what does this mean?
 
Looking great Prodigy. That Asterina star looks very lonely. Have you given that first fish much thought . Beware thats a trick question:) The black growth is more than likely cyano bacteria, which is completely normal for a young tank. Absolutely nothing to be concerned about.
 
thats a neat start protigy :) love the fact that your sump almost doubles total water vollume and that you have a decent sized DSB.

careful of sunbursts question, if you get anything wrong from sunburst he multiquotes you, and thats not fun :)

but what are your desires with regards to fish and corrals, what would you like your tank to look like a year from now?

a pic of the substrate is a good idea so we can check the grain size for ya :)
 
Hey crispin, I've seen his tank up close and the sand in his display is fine, I was originally worried that the sand at the bottom of his DSB is a bit coarse, but he was told to put finer sand ontop. The nice thing about black rock sand is that it's particles are nice and rounded and not sharp edged.
 
The sand, or to be acurate it's actually fine shingle, is OK for the display, as the particle size is correct and is not too easily kicked up by flow. You do need to stir it up quite often as it solidifies otherwise. It's absolutely no good for the DSB for that reason. I have tried using it. It forms a thick layer of rock hard crust on top, preventing any life from developing underneath. Rather get some nice fine sand from Yellows or Cove Rock.

Otherwise it looks like you're off to a good start.

one comment, with the heater.... i have mine in the DSB compartment..... that way i know the odds of it ever veing exposed to air is almost zero..... just a safety precaution

I pulled my heater out the water one time forgetting to switch it off, and it just got hotter and hotter, I was so scared the glass would crack, but it's fine, just be careful with your Bucks, as Neil has said. It should be fully submerged.;)
 
Ok tanx for the coments guys.
Im waiting to set up a small reef set up with some of the following fish
2x common clowns
1x Dwarf angel (not sure on which one dy all hectic)
1x Bi colour blenny
1x Yellow tang (I know about the water capacity issue)
A couple of anthias
As for corals im going as easy as possibly i wanna get the easy corals growing and doing well before i move to a harder to keep corals! Wanting an an Anemone for my clowns?
I would like some more ideas on my fish list piz as i am still not sure what i want!

IMHO that is toooo small for a YT, there are other fish just as colourfull that require less water.

Also please please research the nennie thing, let your tank mature for at least 6 months, make sure your system can handle the nennie, then get it !!!

I know about the nennie thats y i mentioned him last. about the yellow tang i have seen it done so thats why im interested...
