shifty my red starfishes fingertips?

Shifty has fingertips that tend to fray and shorten. every time i see it happen i give a squirt of iodide at him and his area and it comes right for a few days and heals a little shorter. he likes to sit at the top of the tank and stick his fingers out slightly. really confuses me.

i have seen this behavious befor alot of star fish sit at the top of the tank with 1 or 2 legs floating just under the surface.

u know when ur driving and you hold your'e hand out the window in the breeze?.....maybe its their equivalent.....lol

They may be catching the surface "scum"?

Turns out that starfish fingers fray if they experience salinity fluctuations even if it is slight. i dis my waterchange a little faster than normal yesterday and as long as my waterchange water is 1.024-5 i dont worry. now i know it must be exactly the same! If adjusting salinity do it superrrrrrrr ssslllooowwwww!
