bubbletip anemone
Hi All
Is it normal for a bubbletip anemone to split into four or more. My green bubbletip split into what could be four or five new pieces. Two normal color brown/green and two very very light green. It looks like another behind them. I have a pink tipped bubbletip that split in two also. I'll speak to the wife about selling. |

its not always a good thing for a BTA to split, especially as it can be due to negative water conditions which entices them to split. The fact that two are so much lighter than the others would allude to a loss in zooaxthela (the sybiotic algae which give the nennie colour and which help it with food production) and thus the lighter colour.
Its not a great idea to have too many different nennies (as in not clones of each other) in one tank as that can lead to chemical warfare between the nennies. what is your water temp at the moment and average over the past 2 months? __________________ my second tank thread....http://www.marineaquariumsa.com/showthread.php?t=13692

under stress, they can also force themselves to split. Else, maybe you are just lucky.
How big is your tank? 2 anemones close to each other that are not identical twins will have chemical warfare. How close to each other are they? Are you running carbon to help with absorbing some of those "weapons". __________________ The cycle is only complete when the dead has been eaten

Thanks guys
Temps have been close to 30 the last month or so. I have a big "green plate coral" ( don't remember these names) and the nennie Lighter brothers were right undernieth it. They have since moved to where there is better lighting. The pink bubble pair are about about a quarter the size of the green/brown lot. No carbon |
