Input on tank build
Hi guys
So about 1year ago,my initial plans for a FOWL 2m tank had to be canned. Now I decided to go for something abit smaller..last night my friend delivered the glass for a new tank.going to be 1,2m X 60cm wide X 60cm high in 12mm thick glass..the glass worked out to R700 with top and bottom bracing. I already hav two quad 39watt t5 units which I want to use on tank..I'm either gna keep a nice fish collection or go for softies but concentrating on zoas..I also have a powerlab skimmer with an askol pump..skimmer rated for 1000litres. I have two questions... 1. As the glass is 12mm thick..is there any chance the tank can be rimless?or does the 60cm height mean I mst use bracing even if glass is 12mm thick. 2. Does any1 know where I can get me black silicone in cape town?if so,pls post the brand details and code Any input is appreciated. |

Like I said guys..a friend organised it..if I knew a supplier who sells for that cheap I would build all my tanks out of 12mm glass.lol.
Also want to know if its better to have a wooden board between the tank and stand?or thick polystyrene between glass and stand |

Locally they charge -+ R700 for a square meter 10mm. If i could get the same price for 12mm for 120x60x60 with bracing......id drive down to Cape Town and pick up the glass myself. And the i will still safe loads!! __________________ When ever in doubt, do it for JustIn ........ Just In Case !!

I always place a board on metal, then poly on board.

What is that pumps rating?
What is the width of your sump (front to back)? Do you want to go with a DSB? __________________ The cycle is only complete when the dead has been eaten

Hi riaan..I think the pump does between 2000-3000lph..I want a dsb..sump shud be a standard 1,2m tank..so will be 45cm wide..was thinkn of making dsb area 50cm long.

Pump might be a bit too small. You should aim at about 3000L/h delivered at your tank rim. Taking head height loss as well as bends into account.
Unless you have some reactors that also pull water from last chamber and deliver back to first chamber. Or just an extra 1000L/h pump doing that. For now, use that pump with extra smaller pump as described. See in your setup if you have excess detritus settlement on the sand. So you can experiment and find out what is your ideal pump. __________________ The cycle is only complete when the dead has been eaten
