thanks guys its great to be here
Just a little about the club. Its a Dive club based on the UKZN premises run by students,ex students and few volunteers we suckered into specific jobs like accounting We offer a few dive courses such as beginner(open water 1) and advanced. We do offer spear fishing courses as well which cover things like breathing techniques and how to create an accurate firing action etc.
The club often sets up an array of dives, from dives here in durban to sodwana and occasionally mozambique. There is an informal social every thursday at the club where everybody is welcome called ''Pooza Thursday'' which helps greatly when you want friday to arrive a lot quicker There are always braai packs available and occasionally the club members will make salads and pap to go with your chops Another great thing is that the beers are cold are as far as i've been there we've never run out

So if your free on a thursday night come round, things usually kick off around 7 and the company is always cheerful.

If anyone is interested in any details about dive courses etc just PM me and i will get back to you asap

Greetings All

Well the time has come for another spearo course; we have had many inquiries
since the first course so the dates have been set for another course. This
is primarily aimed at the novice spearo, but all are welcome. The dates are
25 - 27 November at the UKZN under water, club house from 18h00 - 21h00 and
will be presented by Rob Allan and Jeremy Williams from The Dive Factory.
There are certain costs involved in this course and they are as follows:

Student Club Members R 150

Non student club members R 200

Non club members R 250

We can only take 20 on the course so it is important to book your place now.
Following this course there will be an advanced course which will include
pool sessions and boat dives, PM me for contact details

From a manufacturing stand point we are glad to know about your club, I'm also glad to say we got a new contract with a manufacturer in SA that will make our new FIN (Seawing Nova).

Heya Scuba, what a great place ! Tell me, has there been any interest in short courses for us marine collectors, you know, a bit less than open water 1 but including things we deal with more often like techniques of catching marines, etc - i'm sure many of us just put on baggies, flippers and goggles and jump right in without knowing the basics of safety and how currents work.

Hey Eric dont know if there are such courses but your best bet is to get together with other members when they go diving - one tends to learn very quickly how things work in the open water - just let the other guys know that you not so experienced as everyone else and they WILL take care of you - the next time I'm going down will pm you maybe we can get together with a few of the Durban guys and go for a dip! (I'm planning my next trip end of October to be at the meeting and go specimen hunting) At the Durban braai we took a shot at Veggies pier just left of the harbour entrance - awesome man! Just remember never dive alone and you can go with baggies but if the sea get rough you can get some nasty nicks on the rocks so maybe look into some kinda wetsuit

Thanks Chickaboo, with summer and the juveniles on their way, I'm totally keen on getting wet and giving this a bash. A wetsuit is on the shopping list, but for now it's baggies - at this stage if i was wearing a suit and saw a shark chances are i'd ---- myself and it would blow up like a balloon. Woosie nê ?
