Ozone - How is it done?

Hi All, Dean, if you are going fowlr please do consider hyposalinity. Many good effects on fish from this and it has been used for years in commercial systems for controlling disease. (Review some of the links in water parameters section). Another good reason for using O3 in reef systems is...

    Should i remove t5s?

Hi Mekaeel, All MH's may be considered broad spectrum lamps (this is why they are closest to artificial sunlight) and they usually peak in a certain spectrum hence the kelvin rating. It is therefore not necessary at all to supplement a MH lamp with a flourescent except to enhance the human...

    PVC electrical Conduit for Plumbing

Hi aLL, Thanks for all the replies, apart from what has been said here here is some additional info I found out over the weekend. The main reason not go with conduit is that it is brittle, especially so when it is cold. It will break / crack often even with small bumps. When used in an 'out...

    PVC electrical Conduit for Plumbing

Yes, thanks. In the West Rand (read: Waterplant :whistling: ) no 20mm piping and I won't have the time this weekend to go to FAB (not really West Rand ) but yeah, I know the places, pity really, maybe if I learnt a new one, they might have PVC gate valves, so not all the valves I could...

    PVC electrical Conduit for Plumbing

Hi Mekaeel, I've been around to a few plumbing places they have only 40mm or 50mm. These are fine to use, they are uv tretaed and have a decent enough wall but I need 20mm and I have only seen the conduit. this is what I found on WWM, still tempted to use it though, will also save me the...

    PVC electrical Conduit for Plumbing

Dear All, Can one use pvc electrical conduit for plumbing a pressure (low) line in marine strength saltwater. I know that folks have said that it will corrode but I'm finding that a wee bit hard to believe since it is ozone resistant and more robust than perspex but in the end I dont really...

Stupefying! 35 Year Old Reef Tank!!

no water changes! And all along I thought my tank had reached some sort of equilibrium or the skimmers:P ! LOL! Last year I done one whole +-50l water change and only after my heater had wiped out half the tank! Anyway I got the idea from Richard Durso, his tank was featured on either RK or...

Stupefying! 35 Year Old Reef Tank!!

Dear All, Came across this post on RC. The corals are not as old as the tank and it is not SPS dominated but I nonetheless found some of the facts about this tank to derail some of the staus quo wrt running a reef tank. Like that it mostly runs on one powehead for 100gal or that it has the...

    Sims Octagon

I would agree 100% with poking disaster in the eye!! See all those joints are the problem, I have seen 2 off these types (but FW) go south with the bracing intact! At the minimum, put the bracing back man, then consider a mitre on each joint. Regards, Rafiq

    Vinegar and kalk

Hi, I may be stating the obvious but just adding vinegar to your normal dosage of kalk is not going to increase the calcium (or maybe I have it wrong but acetic acid is not just another form of calcium is it?) . You have to add more kalk powder into your mixture, the vinegar will then drop the...

Sorry for 20 questions, may I set the fans for eg on at 25deg C and and off at again at 26deg C and then the chiller on at 26deg C? Actually I'm sure it should if each equipment piece has it's own hi-lo module on the controller right? how soon would you be able to quote on something like this...

    Silica sand

On BB vs DSB: There is merit to both but I think there is more merit to BB especially since remote DSB's and refugium techniques are as effective as they are. On DSB Area: Maybe Millepora or DragonReef can comment on this, his current one is apparently to small.
