Thanks for the response so far. I have hundreds! 1) Is a protein skimmer absolutely essential? 2) Surely two powerheads with filters will work well as filters? Fill one with klinofish material, teh other with shale/shell 3) Do undergravel filters work well in a marine environment?

I'm brand new to marine tanks- in fact, about to build one for my plecostomus for winter (he's thriving in my koi pond!). I'll turf him back into pond around mid-sept when it warms up and convert his old home into a marine tank.
