Urgent help :Water cloudy, Fish dying and corals not opening.

"My suggestion is to take some sort of corrective action if the total ammonia rises above 0.1 ppm. This suggestion is also made by Stephen Spotte in his authoritative text, Captive Seawater Fishes.6 Values in excess of 0.25 ppm total ammonia may require immediate treatment, preferably involving...

    Loadshedding Nov 2014

What are the options when you have started to convert pumps to 12 vdc ? Seems very inefficient to convert dc to ac back to dc? I guess our heaters will always be 220v so just have to live with it. Seems a pity as dc pumps are ready to work of 12 v straight.

So the tools of modern fisheries management ( stock assessment, quotas , rights allocation etc etc) are of no consequence? Any one should be able to just collect as much as they want without scientific oversight ?

    Harlequin Anthius at DeJong

Well nobody has been able to categorically ascertain (and repeat here any official communication to that effect) that no commercial collecting permits have ever been issued. IF such permit/s have been issued, what process was followed? In the context of other fisheries management programs(e.g...

Have you tried UV in your system?

Pods are mini crustaceans. They are multi cellular organisms with a skeleton that provides a degree of protection. Ask koi enthusiasts , uv will not control larval anchor worm or fishlice (both crustaceans). Crypto is unicellular and is relatively " naked" and therefore vulnerable to uv at the...

need help to catch convict tang without dismantling my tank

I've caught many fish using a small fishing hook . The ones made for fly fishing are sharpest and sometimes available in barbless varieties. If not you can crush the barb with needle nose pliers. Have a wet towel (and pair of tweezers, forceps ) ready to lay your fish on when you need to remove...

    Aging RO/DI water

Yep, the ph of Ro /Di can change in seconds. That is why you actually buffer distilled water with KCL before measuring the ph. How to Measure the pH of pure water Btw who remembers their first chemistry test in school ? Saturated limewater, a straw and the co2 from breathing..

    Aging RO/DI water

Yip agree , many brands are somewhat vague though. Tropic Marin only recommends mixing untill the solution is clear. Red Sea recommends using it virtually straight away . Several salt brands to have small amounts of ammonia as a contaminant from the Solvay process used to make calcium...

    Aging RO/DI water

As for new salt mix. Some brands can be used within minimal time...2hrs. I prefer a day or so.

    Aging RO/DI water

Nope, not neccssary . We used to age tap water to allow the chlorine to dissipate. Your carbon cartridges took care of that Pure (ro/di ) water has no buffering capacity and is therefore ph unstable .
