MY DIY ROCK, Please give your comments!

Thanks, I'm fairly new to the marine tank scene, see my last post about my additives. this really all I use. To top it all off, I don't even use a protein skimmer. I built my own algae scrubber and it works like a charm.

can any of the Durban guys help (sea cond + vis)

The vis is K@K less than a meter. Conditions is not to bad, but with all the River water running in, I dont think the sea will be cleaning up soon. Maybe the north coast or Ushaka.

Help Seed My DSB....I need bugs.

I don’t know if I can do that! I have heard so many horror stories about silica and who knows what’s in the sand just waiting to seep out.

Help Seed My DSB....I need bugs.

Hi guys. I have my DSB going for about three weeks now and I’m starting to see small bug like things swimming, but would like to get some sand from a well established DSB to properly seed my DSB. Is there anybody in the DBN central area that can spare some?:please: It would be much appreciated.

I might have this all wrong, I'm sure! Please explain to me how something could be bad if it has been in the sea for I do not know how long. If there was anything to leach out of it, surly by the time I found it is should have leached out. Moreover, the surrounding waters would have turned in to...

I would recommend as coarse as you can get, But you will find that it sounds like a very easy thing to find but the best I could get was pool salt. I would have preferred to get some very coarse rock salt. It dissolves and make nice little cavities all over the rock.

The brown stuff all washed off the first time I dunked it in the water, it is just for moulding, and I read that it is a good idea to use coarse salt for the moulding but I am not to sure about that. I will try that next time on a smaller rock.
