Hi, I've just purchased a Powder Blue from Lps. I've only had her for 3 days now. When introduced to the tank she got picked on by my Yellow tang so I put a mirror inside which did help with settling. Now this morning I noticed she has white spot.

From past experience with a Regal tang I have feeling my Powder blue won't survive either. I do not have a quarantine tank so this options out. I've waited 6 months to purchase her and have become very attached to the little beauty so losing her is not an option!

Please help I'm not sure what to do? I've started more feeds with flakes, brine shrimp plus garlic & seaweed in an attempt to boost her ammunition system. I did the same process for the Regal but failed.

Shall I return her back to Lps? And cut my losses. Let them quarantine her.

Powder blue is very well known for whitespot. That is why you must make sure that you do a proper quarintine first. I would suggest to leave her right now as you most likely already brought in the whitespot into your tank. Moving it around will just cause more stress.

I'm just worried if I keep her on she will spread the white spot to the rest of the fish in my tank. I've leaning toward taking her back to the Lps

Go read up on whitespot and you will see that clearly the whitespot has been "spread" already. Taking it back to the LPS will still leave your tank infected with whitespot.

The cycts from whitespot has already been released into your water.

3 days is the minimum period WS can be on the fish. So if Powder Blue had WS from the shop, then it could have infected your system by now.

QT is the thing to do.

Plus do not overly stress these fish when catching them out. Use big plastic bags or small fish tank to catch the fish in, not a net. Do not lift the fish out of the water.

@RiaanP beat you to the link !!! lol:tt2:

We'll then this little guy needs to go back to Lps. There's nothing in my power really I can do to help her they'll have a better chance in helping it

Sorry about this..hope whatever you decide will work out well

you seriously cannot expect a shop to quarantine your fish for you. Please.

How many fish goes through those tanks a month? No way that any shop will dedicate a system for you for 6 weeks. Well, maybe, but then you will pay a premium price on that.

Setting up a QT system is basically a must. Especially if you buy fish that is known to have issues with whitespot.

Please check if you cannot get some big buckets from Plasticland, and start the bucket method TODAY. Before the tank lights goes out. Hopefully your system is not infected yet, you will only know about end of next week.

otherwise, do the hope and pray method. Feed your fish well, hope it keep on eating, and pray it survives.

It's not that I asked them to quarantine the fish for me, I asked to return the fish because I've only had it for 3 days and I noticed the white spot yesterday. Based on this I figured the fish had already developed white spot. Also I should have noticed something wasn't right when the fish was tanked on its own where as the other blues were swimming together in a another tank amongst other fish. When I chose another powder blue they insisted I took the loner instead.

I suppose this is also an expensive lesson learnt

Have to agree. That is why it's so important to do your reseach well before purchasing anything. We all learn this way but i think it's unfair to name and shame the sponsor who you now expect to quarintine the fish. We all trying to help you in this regard and doing the method riaanp suggested will be your best bet. I for one only had good service from Wild on Pets. They just supply, their tanks are run to move stock and not to keep it there for a long time.

The fish was healthy when you received him...obviously the moving around ect stressed him out at that brought on the whitespot. They would and can not be held liable for this. It's up to the reefer to take the precautionary measures

the loner got actually a better change of not having whitespot. The more fish in one system, the more others that does not show WS that easily, can be in that tank spreading various diseases or parasites. You only need one sick fish.

I will rather take a fish in a tank that only got a few fish instead of lots of them.
