So now my tank have whitespot

I've quarentined everything just saw white spots on my fox face how do I treat him? How do i get rid of it in my tank? I can't dose chemicals because of shrimp and other sensitive creatures. I run a algea x with uv light so I dont understand how this could have happened.

Please help

how and for how long did you quarantine the latest arrival?

Quarentine is 6weeks long put them in QT tank and make sure that all is clear before I add them to DT last arrival was last week but he was also quarentined

ok you did nothing wrong, most fish carry the parasite on their skin, its when they are stressed/immune system down that they then get it...

its a fact of life in this hobby IMHO , just make sure fish eat well and keep up vitamins/nori etc

A balanced diet should take care of vitamins.

i fortify my food with vita-chem

Ya i feed flakes and frozen food wich he also gobble up. What do I now do with rest of tank?

nothing in haste, you dont want to add more stress, keep them all fed and healthy and it will work itself out, i have done that with success

keep us posted

Just having them for 6 weeks in a tank is no guarantee that whitespot is gone. Re-look at the live cycle of whitespot.

Most likely you had a few spots on the fish when you bought it. Also the WS can be on the gills. They are on the fish 3 to 7 days. Then they will drop off and can wait up to 28 days depending specie and or tank temperature, or whatever other external parameter impacts them. Then they hatch looking for the next hosts. That can be your 6 weeks.

Alternative, the WS did complete at least one cycle already in your holding system. Low salinity, UV or pure luck kept the numbers down. I reckon this is the case, as from other guys previously, it seems the average cycle is about 10 to 11 days after last WS disappear from the fish to be re-infected. That holding system is anyway also now infected for the next 6 weeks since the day you removed the last fish from it.

Can push the temperature in the holding system up to 28 to speed up the next hatch date, ensuring a shorter than 28 days hatching period. Else if you can drain this holding area completely, dry it out and let it stand in the sun for a day or two. Including all equipment.

The only method that will not allow WS into your system is the tank transfer method, or the bucket transfer method, whatever you want to call it.

Quick update.

Foxface doing well white spot got a bit worse but seems to get better now.
He still eats like a pig.☺

Firstly, you will get WS from corals attached to rocks, the parasite lives on rocks too. Take a look at most LFS, they keep a fish or two inside their coral banks to allow the corals to have some nutrients. Most reefers don't quarantine corals in a fishless system for six weeks as well.

Like the others said, keep fish well fed, pristine water quality and add no more fish at the moment.
