Hi all,
So I had a new sailfin die the other day but actual disease wasn't diagnosed 100%. For this reason I'm setting up a QT today.
I need help on the equipment for the QT.
I have:
150L tank cleaned
250W jager heater
3 pumps
1 airpump with tubing
Don't have a filter but have mature ceramic rings in my main sump I could use?

Is this enough to run QT tank??? I need it up and running today...

QT can be mean different things.

1) is the QT tank designed for observation of a new fish one wants to add to their so called "parasite" free reef tank.

2) Is the QT tank, a tank that is meant to treat sick fish.

3) Is the QT tank for landing and accumulating wild caught species?

I prefer to use those reptile hides instead of PVC pipes. Fish accepts the hides a lot quicker as a hiding place. And its easy to clean them. they are not porous. And you can dry them out easily in the sun to kill any parasite that might hide on them.

hi... sorry for the late reply

yes thats fine...
the ceramic rings will be perfect...

to me QT is 2-fold, ridding of unknown parasites and acclimation to captivity(your tank).

to be honest its something i need to relook at and actively do, i dont have a dedicated system but i either do FW dip or blue life safety dip....

i am glad you have decided to go this way and look forward to seeing your experience with it...

My QT regime is slightly different.
I bucket treat first.
Then I put the fish in a holding system that is not than clean. Meaning it got algae and some rocks. A lot more natural. It does help to lessen the stress a lot. It is not 100% correct environment to keep them for quarantining purposes. But at some point I found that you do need to play of the need for quarantine against less stress and a more natural environment.

Got 2 holding tanks or quarantine tanks. The one runs with bio balls and I can easily clean out that tank completely and restart. Planning to buy a lawnmower blennie, I lower the lights, run it extended, feed the empty tank flakes etc, so that algae can start to take over. So after the bucket method, its easier on the fish, feed it a bit more as it is used to in the sea. Does the same with pod feeders. Although sometimes the copepods multiply and run all over the tank, just to be all gone a couple of days later. Strange?!?!

My 220L holding tank is a much more permanent tank. Even running on a DSB. Hah. Anyway, have a female mandarin in there going now for her third week. So far still healthy and feeding away on something.
