Hi guys I'm in need of some advise. I need to buy a skimmer for a 1800 liter system which is heavily feed and my current options are either 2nd (+\- 2 years old) reef octo XP8000 ext or a new aquaria APS-11. Any advise or opinions will be greatly appreciated.

If the reef octopus is in good running order I would go with that!!! Bubble Magnus has also taken the market and is an excellent product!! Reef octopus know and tested

DC or AC?

what is your budget you allowed yourself to spend on a skimmer?

it comes down to budget end of story..... All the proper makes have excellent skimmers. Don't be fooled by the pretty packaging look at things like @RiaanP mentioned do you want AC or DC, what is the flow rate of the pump supporting the skimmer - air flow per hour. Look at the design of the skimmer does it have a cone neck or is it straight.

Do research - the US sights have a lot of reviews on the different skimmer(s).

I'm not sure if they are AC or DC but they bother cost the same just the reef octo is 2nd hand and the other is new. Budget I have allowed for is +/-R10k

I don't seem to find any info on the aquaria APS-11 skimmer on the net hence my request for advice.

I would suggest a reef octopus bubble blaster 5000 external...then youre sorted!

Thanks for all the advise guys I have decided to go with the reef octo and I'm considering doing the dc pump upgrade once the bank account has healed.

Since Porra seems to have made his choice , could I derail and ask what difference AC vs DC makes ? Is it a power consumption thing or a material effect on the capability ?
