Not an algae I know...

I have been doing some additional research on Aiptasia control as I am very anti using CBB as I believe they are destined to die in a reef and Peppermint shrimps are hit and miss. I came accross this thread where a chap in Portugal is using a seagrass filefish (acreichthys tomentosum) for Aiptasia control

It is confirmed in a number of other sources that this fish does indeed help, and more importantly it continues feeding on other foods

Aiptasia - ReefPedia

Anyone using it? I am willing to try, wonder if my LFS will bring one in....

It is always risky to buy a fish for the sole purpose of using it to control a pest, what happens if it successfully clears your tank of aips? what will you do if it doesn't touch them?

Also read certain angelfish can be quite good, but they will go after corals to.

i intorduced a canti (small puffer) into my brother in laws aptasia infested tank and in less than 2 weeks all traces of aptasia were gone.. the canti is still in their and being closley watched incase it persues its usual habits of fin knipping..

I agree or worse what if it clears up all the aips and turns on something else just as fleshy:arghhhh:

HHHhmmm - never heard THIS before.....

BUT - just a thought - these reefkeepers might have just been really lucky to get individual fish that developed a LIKING for aptaisia......

I hope that I BECOME lucky.... my regal ate a few free drifting aptaisia already.... I am HOPING that it developes a LIKING for my aptaisia.... I have MORE than enough.....
