Hi Everyone,

I would just like to introduce myself.

I just recently got into the hobby and aquired myself a Juwel Lido 120 tank to convert to marine :yeahdude:

Looking at getting a nice little nano reef going...so hold thumbs.

Will post some pics of the setup soon.

Welcome to MASA, hope you enjoy it here. If you're completely new to marines, then I suggest you read the link below in my signature on starting a marine tank - awesome info you can't afford to miss ;)

welcome! Pics please

Welcome dude!

Little dirty but I filled it with fresh water cleaned and ran it for about a week and a half.

Morning Everyone :)

So, just thought I would update my thread with a few more pics...

Added some more LR to my tank yesterday (Sold as dead rock), got some really nice pieces...also discovered some life in the tank :1:After close inspection I found I had a whole bunch of little bristleworms crawling all over the live rock I bought a little while back.

Nway...Nuff talking...here's some pics after adding my LR on day 5 of the cycle:

A little Bristleworm...hope this is the good kind of life that I would want in my tank?

Hi Len,

Thanks man :)

Im using the standard filtration that came with the Juwel Lido 120 tank.
Only changes at the moment is that I pulled out the carbon filter sponge and replaced it with a bit of activated carbon that I placed in a piece of stocking :) I also added another with some ZeoVit stones for removal of phosphates. On top I added a piece of white floss sheet for removing the bigger particles that I plan to change regularly while doing water changes.

I'll probably look at upgrading the filtration later if needed and possibly try and do a HOB solution...what are your thoughs on this?

Also, I still want to add a HOB skimmer...just looking for one that comes at the right price :)

Filtration

@Len,

Just to further explain the filtration:

The basic workings of the filter:

Filter Media:

A: Replaced carbon sponge with activated carbon in a filter bag (Stocking)
B: Never got the nice little containter so I added a filter bag with ZeoVit

Should I add/Remove anything at this point?

I see that you are also in Midrand. I have a sumpless tank which you are welcome to come and see. I am battling cyano at the moment so please excuse that. I use the Deltec MCE600 HOB skimmer. No internal filters, only powerheads.

Hi and welcome to MASA.

Looking good, I digg the scaping.
Juwel has a skimmer out now that fits in the filter compartment. Dont know how good it is though.

dude take out the zeo stones! you need a good efficient skimmer if you want to run zeo or np pellets. You should rather take out some water and drill the tank to make an overflow. You rather do it now or later on when you have a stocked tank you will be super sad. Im running zeo on my tank and even with a very low bio load my skimmer pulls out crazy crap!

hang on skimmers are not the best things in the world. Best is to make a little sump then you can put a decent skimmer in it and then you can think about putting a zeo reactor in :)

btw I love your scaping!

Looking good! Welcome to masa. i am looking forward to seeing this tank developing. it seems to have a good start!
