Hey guys, after being MIA due to frequently moving and not being able to set up a proper tank I am back in the game. I am planning a DIY all in one pico/nano. I plan to keep softies, lps and inverts mostly, maybe one or two fish.
Specs:
60x25x25 Tank with polished glass edges
Filtration chamber in the one end of the tank made with black perspex, simmilar to a Boyu's
3 Compartments: 1 Biocubes/pellets, act carbon and heater, 2 skimmer, 3 return
For the skimmer I am looking at a Tunze 9001 or 9004
Fine aragonite substrate
T5 lights
Seio M620 internal flow

Any comments on filtration , which bio media, any suggestions on other skimmers?
What flow rate return in terms of tank volume?

Pics to follow soon

Hi and welcome back. Look in the for sale section. There is currently a tunze 9001 skimmer up for grabs.

Looking forward to the pics!

Okay so got a nice standard 2 foot tank with polished edges as I wanted for a good price at a LFS. I decided to not do the filter at the back of the tank for now to save some display space. At the moment i am going to rely on heavy skimming, liverock, water changes and activated carbon for filtration. If the need should arise I will run some Biocubes in a separate filter in the tank. I also got a BubbleMagus QQ at a decent price at a LFS so decided to buy it rather than struggling to get a decent 2nd hand Tunze. Must say this skimmer looks as if it will do the job.
Unpacking the skimmer.

Cleared up this morning. I have a 24W PL tube on there at the moment, will get a nice Zetlight or something similar when finances allows. The tanks will also be filled a bit more when I can get some more salt, lol. I also have a SEIO M620 and a 300W Eheim heater in there, also plan to replace the heater with a 100W to save some space in the tank.

Any comments or advice welcome.

The engine room after getting a smaller heater and cleaning up the cable work. At them moment I am running Seachem Carbon in the little filter, I will keep purigen and phosgaurd on hand to use as needed in the little filter, one question is will the steel shaft of the small filter be a problem in the long run?

Some hitchhikers and life I have got at the moment. Can anyone please ID the red macro algae and tell if it will be problematic?

I'm surprised the skimmer doesn't give you more micro-bubbles in the display.

Looks good tho, This is exactly what size tank i started out with. Had really good success. Good luck and may your journey be full or experiences already learned by others and not the experiences, you learn the hard way, by yourself. )

Sigh, this bow keeps on bothering me. Going to keep the tank half filled and build my own 2 foot with 6mm glass. Keep an eye out for my new build coming soon. Not worth risking the livestock and other more expensive hardware.
