Hi all.

Sooo, I decided to eventually get back into the aquarium scene. Due to lack of space I was never able to do a setup again. Today tho, I took the plunge with a nano, a setup I never thought I'd get... A Boyu TL550 with LED's. :m33:

I used Red Sea's Coral Pro Salt (makes the water very white milky, which should dissipate in a day or two) and Caribsea's Arag-Alive for substrate.

During setup I removed all the bio balls and and replaced it with small bits of Fiji live rock. Also placed just over 5kg of live rock in the display to mature with the tank.

And now the waiting game begins... can't wait till I can ad some live stock :m85:

@TaahirS - I'm gonna do some softies and LPS. Regarding fish, 2 clowns (wife and kids' demands lol), fire goby, mandarin, maybe a surgeon, cardinals. Mostly easier fish, been so long out of reefing that I don't want to go hectic in a little nano

OK, here's the first issue. I did some reading up about the salt I'm using, the Red Sea Coral Pro. It is clear that it's the cause of the milky water, and I established it should dissipate in a day or so. I woke up this morning to find the water a little bit clearer, I could see into the tank, although the inside glass still have the milky substance all over it.

However, when I checked salinity, I obviously disturbed the water, 'cause now it's back to square 1. Is this normal? How long does the milkiness stay in the water? Got beautiful live rock I can't see lol

you gonna have a nice little system going there those bouyu tank are one of my favorite for a nano. I just want t say that the last bucket of red see salt I used cleared up within 15 mins its the quickest clearing salt I have used so far out of 4 brands.. is it not the live sand that caused the milkyness I set up my 1.7 m the tank was milky for almost 4 days.. awaiting your future posts.

I am sure it is the live sand and not the salt. Put some filter wool in the first chamber and run your skimmer (If you have one). I once used this sand and had a similar experience.
 
Thanx davesh.r - I have only about 8kg of fiji LR in the tank, and will only ad a little bit more to seed the tank with copepods etc from other reefers (hint hint... lol).

Water is almost nice and clear now. Can't wait to start adding live stock, but will definitely not be jumping the gun... met a fellow reefer at the lfs this morning. Bloody idiot's tank is only 2 weeks old and its already stocked with fish. Now he's blaming the damsels for killing other fish. Told him it's not the fish it's himself killing them with stupidity. Asked him if he's on this forum. His reply... he doesn't have time for people telling him what to do! Damn idiot
 
@Reaper, i get a lot of those at the LFS...

Some advice on that Dophin Powerhead, use it for mixing salt only like i am, bought two in a period of 4 months, they shock me after some time, just a heads up unless you like that seeing you are the reaper :m13:

I miss my Boyu already...

Hahahaha lol @Jason

I have my old skimmer's pump that used to shock the crap out of me which I'll use for mixing. But thanx for the heads up on the pump. They're dirt cheap, so don't mind replacing every time
