Hi all I've been planing a new tank 900L x 460W x 600H for a while now and finally bit the bullet today and ordered my tunze pumps with a controller so there is no turning back now:thumbup:

nice!
yip it only gets more addictive now

Hi greg, looking forward to seeing your tank up & running!!!
Please give us your thoughts around what you want to do with the tank, shape, filtration, inhabitants & lighting & what your planning is?

Thank goodness that worked I thought i was going to get a whole lot of writing and no pics.
I've got a very limited space to occupy and I've always liked a tank with three viewing sides so a room divider just made sense. It also gives me the opportunity to add some much needed shelving and some extra storage.
Access to the lights and sump will be from the step side closest to my front door

thanks for taking a look Visser.
I took a look at your nano tank and I love the overflow/return box. gona do some calculations and maybe copy it if you don't mind.

Your more than welcome to copy any of my ideas.
Whats nice about that overflow is that it keeps all plumbing out of the display area!!!

Just remember to make the overflow on your size tank at least 25-30mm from the top of the tank. Keeps tank from overflowing... Lol

Keep us posted, im keen to see this one running!!!

Thanks will def keep this in mind
The main reason I like your idea was because all the plumbing was outside
I'm gona try go for as clean a look as possible so this will be a step in the right direction for sure

with a limited area i would implement a slimline overflow/return into this system..and clad the inner side of it with eother ABS sheeting or perspex with machined grooves to stop fish/ inverts sneaking into the overflow.. all plumbing could be below the tank as the entrance and exit holes would be drilled in the base.. on one side of the tank.

if you wanted to you could even build in a wavebox if you are wanting to go with a Tunze 6055 pump and all you would need to controll this is a 7092 controller as it aimed at creating wavebox/oscilation motions.

nice project greg...

460W is a very narrow tank.
You absolutely sure you want this dimension?
Optically the tank will look very thin, plus difficult for scaping as well

Greg, how much space have you left as an opening between the tank and the wall?
Can a couch fit through;)
I agree with the guys, I even feel that my 600 wide tank was too narrow, the more you can go towards a square shape, the more fun you can have with scaping..
Especially since this sucke is gonna be viewed from 3 sides:thumbup:

Thanks for the concerns guys the walkway is wider than a standard doorway and as far as the width goes its as wide as I can go without getting the wife upset.

Ive decided to go for an overflow like Visser did on his nano with a mod that I saw on Ed_Madocks tank.

I'll add a valve to each of these tubes before they enter the sump.

I also think ill push the tank rim up to 650mm but keep a water level of 600mm allowing for the wave-makers to do their job without fear of storm-surge flooding my lounge:thumbup:

I remeasured the walkway gap and managed to squeeze an extra 30mm on the length i think that will give me an extra 8L onto my tank capacity.

Now to get my cut list organised and the glass ordered then its onto the tank stand design.

Must also still work out what LED's to order so that i don't miss out on the bulk order that hadiosbourne is organizing:eek:

Hi greg, im really liking your design skills, lol, you sure your not some kind of engineer or something. Haha.
Just a word of advice.
When you put valves on your overflow pipes, put them as low as possible down the pipe, preferably right at the outlet into the sump, this way you can close the valves a tiny bit & limit the amount of bubbles being let out into sump & also limits the slurp...

Also, when cutting the skew end at the back of the tank, make double sure the guys cutting the glass knows what they are doing, otherwise you will end up like me driving up & down to my glass supplyers to make them cut new panes because the others didnt fit, ;) (easiest is to assist them when their doing the cutting...)

Looking good there greg, keep the pics coming!!!

I was a bit conserned about that diagonal cut so I'll def keep an eye on the guy doing the cutting. I'm pretty exited the first tunze pump should be arriving tomorrow. Ed_madocks and myself ordered four 6055 's as well as two controllers between the two of us but the only had three pumps and one controller in stock so seen as though Ed is ready for installation he is gona take the first set and I'll wait for the remaining pump and controller. At least I'll have one pump for mockup

Well, if your worried about the skew cut, you can always just leave it square, & build the cabinet to cover the overflow part. (since your design can cater for that...)

Im already exited for your part...

Maybe that will be better I don't feel like fighting with anyone today. I'm also gona do the three viewing sides in 8 mm and all the bracing and back section in 6mm just for some added security.
I'm sure it would be fine all done in 6mm but this way I'll have piece of mind

excelent quality pumps you'll love the variety of flow tou canb create with the controller too.
