Well, Ive been a member a while and mekaeel wants me to do a tank thread. I used to have a cube, but that is being replaced by the following:

The Tank

Tank= 900x600x500 peninsula (water level at 450. Im over deep tanks)

Lights= 8x39W T5s (giesemann bulbs)

Flow= Vortech MP40W ES and Ill probably need to add something else just to up it some more

Substrate= Caribsea

Aquascape= a 80/20 mix of Caribsea Scaping Rock and a couple of really nice mature pieces of rock. Want a very simple open scape. Not too intricate and over the top, zen.

Filtration= Reefocto X160 and carbon dosing (prodibio and vodka). NO DSB. The sump will however have a decent sized frag chamber, which will be lit by 4x 24 Watt Giesemanns

ATO= SAGA

Heater= Jager

Supplements= Profilux 4 way doser, so Ill do a three part dosing regimen, and use the 4th pump to dose diluted vodka.

Livestock

For the zen look, a school of fish is needed (Apogon, Chromis or something), then Ill be wanting a Royal gramma, some gobies and a showfish of sorts...

In terms of corals.. acros, montis, stylos, hystrix and zoas.

A few clams and other bits and bobs.

Ill start posting pics once the tank arrives- should be setup in December time off.

The picture below is just to give an idea of the scaping Ill be wanting to achieve- more of a doodle than anything. Would probably need to be less than the below..

I like the Iwagumi brought into the scaping but I think you will need another vortech on the other side of the tank. Otherwise all sounds good

Not gonna happen- Peninsula style tank. I may add a tunze or something just to up the flow. The fact of the matter is I want some high flow and some low flow areas.

And its all about quality not quantity, especially if you are careful with your scaping.

Thanks dude.

Quite ironic that the aquascaping thread that has just started basically uses 2 of my inspirations...

I found with my cube, the biggest problem with a high tank is you just cant reach everywhere. That on top of having a lid (which I will not be doing on this tank) just makes everything awkward- always stading on tiptoes and on chairs is such a pain.

Also, on a shallower than normal tank, its easy to get a little bit of height in your aquascaping, without having to be too complicated.

This is going to be good.

A large school of blue/green chromis would look stunning if you can get the blue chromis it would be .is that :drool5: i see.

Thanks guys. Yeah adee, the names are iwagumi terms which basically mean main rock, secondary rock and sacrificial stone. And sub, i do need a school, i just dont know what. Apogon ship poorly, chromis arent my favourite, so i need to think that one through.

Yeah, sick of big tanks bro! i want a small tank, where if I do a 25l water change, it make a huge difference.

Agree dude, and you dont pull a muscle trying to fiddle with the tank. The trick Mek is to find the balance between a small tank (trust me, nano gets boring after a while if you have the stick bug)... and something too big. You want the element of stability that a big tank gives. Thats why I wanted something in the 200-300 litre range, but shallowish and "user-friendly".

i agree , shallow tanks are awesome , especially when you see them from above ....

Nice Dave,let the pics roll when you have.Any chance you using starfire low iron glass,also what pendant did you decide to use.

Totally agree- one of the reasons I went with it... not that 500 is that shallow...

Nah, just regular glass. Wasnt too sure of the need for starfire on a smaller tank...
