Hi Everyone

I am seriously going to try and do a thread with my new tank build. In the past I never had a thread from scratch.
Here goes. Please be patient because even Rome wasn't build in a day.

I have decided after quite a bit of thinking to go with a shallow reef tank this time. I think it will be mostly fish, softies and LPS. Never had a real fancy for SPS, but that may be because I've never actually tried it and the one or two time I tried it. it was not very successful.

The tank dimensions will be 1900 (l) X 1000 (w) X 450 (h). It will be from 12mm glass and it will be rimless. One of my main objectives with this tank is that it will be viewable from above as well. I also wants lots of open space. ( However never ends up like that.

PS Don't scream for pics, I will upload as I go along.

First Pic!

Nice and clean?

Ok the glass is cut to size and first thought after it was, I should have made it HIGHER.

But I am commited and will go ahead as planned.

Some pics of glass standing in garage waiting for stand to be finished.

Bottom panel with bracing in place

Front and back - try to figure out for yourselves what is what, with all the other extra aquarium stuff behind it

And the sides - you'll notice the one is a bit lower than the other, because this will be the overflow into the outside chamber with the downpipes.

Here is a drawing of the tank with the C2C

Sump not finalised

Love the drawing !!! that's fantastic.
I am currently busy setting up my tank as well and I am thinking of going UAS instead of refugium with shallow bed.

Where are you planning to incorporate the UAS (Upflow Algae Scrubber) for those who don't know what it is?

I myself like the diversity of the refugium, all the extra life you get there.

Another thing I am unsure about at the moment is whether I must go bare bottom again. I do prefer it, because it is a great way of ensuring that you dont get too much detritus collection in your display.

But on the other hand that white fine sandy uneven bottom looks so good as well. I am definitely in 2 minds regarding this. If I go barebottom, I will paint the underside black or at least put it on something black.

What do you think, please help!

I was all for the bare bottom as well but the aesthetic appeal of the white sand made me change my mind. I am currently working on an Upflow Algae Scrubber Design that is incorporated into the sump and will be be lit from both sides, still on paper only thou so going to start the tank and then replace the entire sump with the design.

Ok, you got another thread going on the overflow length.

No need to overflow two sides. Having the overflow on the one shorter side on your tank is more than enough. Your tank is 1m wide.

Your return? where will that be?

@RiaanP

Return will be decided when I've finalised my sump design.

My stand ready for collection from galvanisers. Just need to get time to go and collect.
One step closer to tank build. I think I still want to paint stand as well.

Thanks, hopefully I can collect my stand tomorrow, then I will see whats next.

The stand is to big to get into the room it needs to be, so I think I'll have to take out a window to get it in. Npt looking forward to that.

Okay I will be collecting the stand today. Hopefully I'll be satisfied with it, otherwise its gonna be another couple of days.

Unfortunately, went to town today, but could not get the stand. It is not too far from Paarl, so maybe I'll get a chance tomorrow to collect.
