So here we go, my son and I have decided to start up a tank together. Our first tank was a Red Sea Max 250. When we moved we decided once we were settled in we would go bigger. The space eventually "allowed" agreed by the boss, was a ledge between our lounge and TV room. We found a tank the perfect size in an AD in Durban.
We drove down to collect our tank 3 weeks ago. last weekend we set up our DEEP MARINE
Dimensions: 1800x900hx600w

i see lots of fun ahead. My tank is 800 deep and I have simian arms, even then I sometimes get my armpits wet. What you doing for filtration?

Yes this is a challenge. Will need to make some tools to work at the bottom.

The tank came with a reeftek TS3, which I have upgraded to a Bubble Magnus curve 9 thanks to @waterboy. Running a sump which is 1000x400x400. 4 chambers
1 inlet
2 sump
3 refugium
4 return

Have also added 3 in 1 uv algae, also from @ waterboy
Also my sump is on the same level as the tanks. Did not have enough space

I for one would love to see you pull this off. Obvious headaches as your thread title states but huge potential. I personally would go with a low rock structure because it allows for lots of swimming space and you can role play Romeo and Juliet through the fish tank every evening.

:m23: yes the idea is to have a nice big swimming area. The idea is not to have a high rock build as it will spoil the effect through the tank.
I have not yet decided what I will stock the tank with. All I know is I am going to take it slow. Cycle properly and add slowly as well.

Looking good, diatoms is a good sign so far so good, i like that waterboy 3 in 1

I use the Waterboy 3 in 1 as well. I eventually removed the sponges and put 5cm of ferric oxide in each container, good motion and no clogging. I run carbon intermittently on a large scale with an external canister filter.

Just in case your sponges start clogging and you're looking for another option.

Thanks will keep that in mind. May reach out to you for more detail on how you have done it.:m106:
