Sump

Tank is running with a very basic three stage sump first stage is a Filter sock system followed be the second stage being reactors and skimmer and a small frag system running in the last stage divided by a three plate bubble baffle.
Tank running now since 24/09/2011 So still early days.

Some observation regarding Biopellets for the guys out there thinking of going this route.

Less is more when it comes to biopellets when starting out, if you put to much then you will end up feeding unwanted algae in the system has there will be to high a food source and not enough bacteria to consume it.

Make sure you have a very good skimmer if you dont you will end up with lots of cyno and diotoms and they will drive you nuts.

Place the reactors oulet as close to your skimmers inlet has possible.

Make sure the reactor you choose keeps the biopellets fluidised no clumping or you will run in to problems.

Thats the basics out the way.

Mistakes i made when setting up the tank.

The biggest mistake i made by far was underestimating the Vertex Lighting unit.
When tank was started i ran the Vertex unit at way to high a setting and burnt the hell out of my SPS.

This set me back and it took a while for the corals to recover.

Growth on the corals has been very good and i am finally starting to see improvements in the coral colours also.

Lights are now running at

100 % on all Blues and 40% on the white LED's

i am increasing the whites slowly untill i reach the desired 60%

Last tests done on Tuesday 7th

Calcium 450
Ph 8.3
Alkalinity 7
Magnesium 1380
Phosphates dont test anymore
Nitrates dont test anymore
Nitrites dont test anymore
Ammonia dont test anymore

Will post some pics soon.

Absolutely stunning tank this one! Couldn't believe how good it looked especially with the large SPS colonies instead of a tank full of rock
