Well then atleast from what I've been told it's not a gorilla crab.Thank goodness.They are sniper killers. Now it's up to pro's to answer what it is. But maybe if you can catch it.then do so and put him in your sump till you confirmation on the ID
Maybe use the "glass in the tank" method? If you have other crabs and fish in the tank it might not work but maybe worth taking a shot? Just put some food into a few glasses and lie them at an angle in the tank... Maybe you're lucky and he ventures into one of the glasses and can't get out... Just do it at night when he is more active...
Hope you can catch him... Or better yet that he is reef safe
I have one in my tank that looks similar, but if you look closely it's got fine hairs on it's body and legs. From what I could gather, it is a Xanthid crab (Gorilla crab as mentioned in the thread). Apparently one of their main physical characteristics are black tips on the end of their claws. Mine hasn't harmed any fish or corals, and I've never been able to catch it (also mostly seen at night). Hope this helps !
