Hey Guys! So I've decided on the lighting upgrade for my 63l tank (sump soon to follow). I have decided to go with T5's because I'm not a fan of what Reefers call "shimmer" (Rays of light moving everywhere, on everything Inside the tank).

I have done some research and It made me a bit more confused than ever before. I did manage to get the part of "there Is no difference between T5HO and T5".

All I need now Is some type of formula/calculator to determent how much light I need, but can't seem to find one.

I would like to know how many bulbs, what Kelvin for each bulb, length and of coarse the ballast do I need for mixed nano reef to keep them happy.

Tanks dimension: (External measurements)

61L x 31W x 42H (cm)

Thanks!

I have considered getting a Unit, but I'm not sure witch one I should get for my tank. If a unit Is cheaper that yes I'll take one.

I agree with Butcherman, i have 24W t5's on a similar sized tank, but its a FW planted tank, i have 2 dual ballasts, 4 x 24w T5.
my diy job is very untidy, does not look good at all, but works well. so depends on you, if you good at diy, go ahead, if you not good and want a smart unit, rather buy one.

I'm thinking of this unit.
Odyssea T5 Quad 60cm 4x 24W Light Unit - R1,213.00 : Jungle Aquatics, Petshop Superstore and Retail Outlet
Is It OK for my tank? Should I replace the bulbs that comes with the unit? How can I automate this unit?

Livestock and corals

False Perc.
3x hermit crabs
Montipora cap. (green and red)
Acropora (brownish green)
Green slimer
Stylophora
Birds nest
Green star polyps
Mushrooms
Zoanthids
Frogspawn
Yip that's the one I was looking at for you...the 60cm... @bryan can assist with the tube question...but guess it would depend on what you'r going to keep and maybe also how "blue" you want the Tank colour... I personally don't like the 20 000k "colour"..

I would suggest use the current tubes in the Odyssea (2x 10k white and 2x 20k actinic) and slowly replace them in 6 - 8 months time with the Giesemann/new RedSea or ATI tubes ... ;) depending on what you want to keep as @belindamotion mentioned :)
