So i popped into work this morning for a quick check up and on my way down the ramp - i heard the Victoria falls !

the first of our 3 fully stocked coral tanks burst ... :(
Crack was from the bottom left corner arcing one third upwards then down to the bottom right hand corner of the back panel - if anybody knows the cause of that type of crack , it would be useful to know.

Water everywhere (280 liters )
So we've taken the stock out and spread it around as well as in the " show tank"

Sunny side up is that it happened when we were at work not last night when we couldn't save the stock.

Cheers
David

Glad to hear the stock is all good, as to the cause i have no idea, but at the end of the day...nice save.

Sorry to hear bud ... Lucky for your livestock you didn't take a long weekend off ... All the best with the recovery and cleanup .... How about a pic of the crack ... Maybe can draw some conclusions from the pic .....

Thanks guys - the brace is 10 mm sides 6mm and are on top of base - not polished edges,
Steel frame wood under the polystyrene.
Tank size is1200 x 500 x 650 high braced front and back of top and bottom - but not the sides ...

Will do the pic thing and load on Monday.
Having one of those days today

Tks guys
David

Out of the 9 tanks this is the first to go , but im thinking the same - ill try lower, and 10mm as a replacement .
See how things look when im back at work on Monday..

You know how it goes - you ask the question you know the correct answer to , but don't want to hear it :(

Yip, at 1200mm x 650mm, 6mm is too thin, and the with the center front to back bracing I would expect that arced break on thin glass.

Sorry to hear D.The one weekend im not there to help out.:(

Polished edges reduce stress concentration which in turn reduces the probability of a crack initiating at the glass surface.

:whistling: almost craped my pants there!
That is to say if beveled and polished is the same.
My tank is being build with beveled edges!

P.S. Sorry for the thread hijacking and sorry to hear
what happened, never a nice thought too!

Beveled edges involve polishing do it is the same thing. All my tanks have had beveled edges.
