What about both? English with a bit Afrikaans, well can read and understand Afrikaans way better than what I can speak and spell it.
I find myself is a similar situation...my "home language" was Afrikaans and I was "raised" in the house as Afrikaans...Mom,Dad,Grandparents..etc...but my entire "school education" was English..Friends..etc...my home language now is English as I consider myself English and Hubby is also English... but when we go visit my Parents I speak Afrikaans to them...guess I'll "tick" myself as English as the only time I did actually speak Afrikaans was when I came home from school and friends..Cool but that's a bit of a tough one growing up in Mitchell's Plain(Cape town), where you speak English in the house and Afrikaans or mixed outside.
English it is.
Proudly Afrikaans, but I spokes bouff tales deliciously sinse I was twise years old
